Rediscovering Concept

I recently had a conversation with a good friend about the game I'm making. Until that conversation I felt something was missing and that I was working towards something that doesn't have anything special about it. I realized this entire time I've been working on making regular puzzle mechanics work, but what I was actually missing, was that main mechanic or core loop that the player would enjoy using while trying to solve puzzles.

So after coming to realize that I thanked my awesome friend that gave me the idea and I decided to change the scope of the game. Instead of putting the focus on the surroundings, I will put the focus on a single mechanic and the world will revolve around it. That mechanic of course was staring at me since the beginning - the punch!

The general idea is that the punch will gain elemental abilities while interacting with other objects. After gaining that ability, the player will be able to affect other objects of the same type. It's nothing too original I know but I feel like now there's room to make this game much more interesting. Check out what I'm starting to work on below and hopefully you'll see what I mean.

Plan

So after rethinking the project I decided to started giving most of my focus to the elemental mechanics that will work together with the punch. I also wanted to work on a basic mechanic so I created the classic pull and push of an object.

For some reason this thing took me a while to achieve but I eventually got it done. Pretty simple I know, but does the job :)

Moving on to the punch-complimenting mechanic I worked on something I call Elemental Prism. The idea is that each time you punch it, the fist gets the elemental attributes of that prism, allowing it to break/interact with elements of the same kind.
